Description
West Lodge is a single-storey gate lodge dating from around 1800. It has a cruciform plan and is harled, with contrasting painted tooled ashlar margins. The east elevation, which faces the driveway, is symmetrical with three bays, featuring a central door sheltered by a deep, projecting semi-circular portico. The portico has a bowed and piended swept roof supported by six Roman Doric columns. Flanking the door are windows with pointed heads and Y-tracery. A square-headed window is located in the south gable. The windows have lattice and four-pane glazing. A central ridge stack is present. The roof is bowed and piended slate, covering all gables. According to the New Statistical Account of 1841, page 460, the lodge is situated at Achnagairn West Lodge.
