Description

Flemington House is a villa built around 1820 and remodeled in 1856, with additional rear extensions from the mid to late 19th century. The house is symmetrical, south-facing, and consists of two stories with five bays, featuring a central rear wing that forms a T-plan. The front is made of coursed rubble, while the flanks and rear are harl pointed, with tooled ashlar dressings and margins.

The central bay is slightly advanced and includes a door that is screened by a pointed cast-iron trellised porch dated 1856. This porch has a bracketed entablature and a block pediment with a corniced apex that supports a gilded lion. The ground floor windows are longer and have decorative painted cast-iron window box guards, while all first-floor windows are adorned with painted cast-iron balconies featuring palmette and anthemion decoration. There are single ground and first-floor windows in the east and west gables that have similar decorative features, as well as windows in the rear wing. The front outer bays have a pair of later 19th-century canted dormer windows, along with a subsequent small box dormer at both the front and rear. The house has undergone some alterations and additions at the rear, including a mansard roof on the service wing.

The main glazing consists of 12 panes, with long and short detailing at all ashlar margined angles. The eaves are deep and bracketed, and the house has a symmetrical corniced ridge and end stacks, topped with a piended slate roof that is partially platformed. The rainwater goods are dated 1856.

Inside, some original features remain, including the principal reception rooms located to the right and left of the entrance hall, along with a rear stairhall. The drawing room on the left has a simple chimney piece with a decorative cast-iron grate. The ceilings are restrained with cornicing and some coffering, and there are panelled window shutters and doors, as well as moulded doorpieces.
