Description
Kilfinnan Burial Ground includes a roofless mausoleum and numerous tombstones. The burial ground is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall, with a simple entrance defined by square gate piers built of ashlar stone and topped with pyramidal caps. Within the burial ground stands a tall, square mausoleum constructed of random rubble, with a roughly coped wallhead. The south elevation features a tall, round-headed arch in the centre, above which is a blind recessed panel. Inside the mausoleum are three McDonnell tombstones dated 1699, 1832, and 1679. The two earlier tombstones exhibit fine carved detailing, including crests, coats of arms, and symbolic representations of immortality and inscriptions. Several other interesting and finely carved tombstones are also present in the burial ground. The site is likely to be the location of a medieval church.
