Description

Thomas Smellie, architect (Kilmarnock); circa 1902. Terrace

of 2-storey houses; polished ashlar, stonecleaned at No 5.

3-bay houses with central depressed-arch pilastered doorway,

curved cornice, bold keystone, glazed fanlight. To left

(right at No 7) corniced tripartite window with pilastered

architraved surround. To right (left at 7) 2-storey canted

window with deep plain parapet breaking through eaves. 1st

floor windows architraved (bi or tripartite ground floor

windows), and with moulded cills. Mainly sash windows; upper

sashes with small pane glazing; lower sashes with plate

glass. Timber modillion eaves. Tall axial stacks, slate

roofs; plain skews. Garden walls, rock-faced with polished

quoins and copings.

Flank to No 5, coursed rock-faced ashlar. Centrally placed

oriel to 1st floor supported on timber brackets. 9-pane

glazing, colour leaded glass. Flank to No 9 adjoins 1

Mirrlees Drive.

Rear elevations; coursed rock-faced red ashlar. Each house

with projecting single-storey and attic hipped-roof service

wing. No 5 with single-storey garage extension to rear.
