Description

James Thomson, circa 1870. Symmetrical terrace of 4 houses, 3

bays each; 2 storeys basement and attics. Polished ashlar,

stonecleaned at No 8.

Steps oversailing basement to wide centrally placed doorway;

double leaf panelled outer doors. Vestibule doors tripartite

with leaded glass panels, side and fanlights. At ground to

right (Nos 2 and 4) or left (Nos 6 and 8) projecting canted

single storey window with ashlar balustraded parapet

(cast-iron bombe balustrade at No 2) otherwise tripartite

windows at ground. First floor bipartite mullioned window

(above door) is flanked by tripartite windows, all with roll

moulded architraves. Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Band

course over ground, string course at 1st floor cills. Mutule

cornice; die-and-balustrade parapet irregular dormers, some

piended. Corniced axial stacks, slate roofs.
