Description

The burial ground at 309-341 Abercromby Street in Glasgow was established in 1786, with later expansion to the south in 1822. It features a large rectangular plan and was created by the Calton Incorporation of Weavers. The site is enclosed by tall sandstone rubble boundary walls, although the wall at the rear has collapsed. There are two gateways on the east elevation, marked by corniced and coped square sandstone ashlar gatepiers, with later cast iron gates.

Within the burial ground, there is a series of stone monuments from the 18th and 19th centuries. Some of these monuments are set into the boundary walls, while others stand freely. Several include inscribed ashlar plot markers. Additionally, there are two later rectangular sandstone panels from 1831 and 1931, which are set into a later sandstone ashlar triangular pedimented panel that commemorates the martyred weavers from the 1787 strike.
