Description

The Telephone Exchange at 124-130 Cubie Street in Glasgow is a former telephone exchange built in 1910, designed in the 2-storey and basement L-plan Edwardian Baroque style. The main façade features red brick with a white Portland stone base course, eaves course, and cornice. It has a segmental pedimented doorpiece and decorative dressings, while the other elevations are finished with white-painted harl. The first-floor windows are adorned with keystoned surrounds.

On the principal (east) elevation, there is a prominent central doorpiece flanked by shallow pilasters, which are topped with a pair of consoles that support a segmental pediment featuring a wreath and festoons. The entrance is simply moulded and has a dentiled cornice. Above the entrance, there is an inscription reading 'TELEPHONE EXCHANGE', although it is partially obscured by a Royal Mail sign. Above this, a window sits beneath a broken cornice, with the date '1910' displayed at its center. To the right in the outer bay, there is a round arched opening at ground level, complete with a keystone and long and short dressings.

The north elevation is blank, while the west elevation consists of an 8-bay section with a flat-roofed projection on the left and a taller advanced section with a single bay in the re-entrant angle on the right. The south elevation is nearly blank.

The building predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows with horns, and there is a modern door on the east elevation. The interior was not seen as of 2004.
