43 Victoria Crescent Road, Dowanhill, Glasgow

43 Victoria Crescent Road is a polished red ashlar house designed by architect David Barclay in 1902. It is located on a corner site adjoining Dowanhill Street to the south and features two storeys with attics.

The house has an asymmetrical three-bay elevation facing Victoria Crescent Road. The right side has an advanced bay that leads to a pilastered doorway, which includes a double-leaf door adorned with dentil moulding and a curvilinear lintel above. A glazed rectangular fanlight separates the door from the entrance. Flanking the door are leaded glass sidelights that have a bracketed cill and a lintel topped with a strapwork pediment. To the left, there is a four-light bow window that curves around the corner. On the right, the advanced bay features a four-light mullioned projecting square window. A continuous moulded band runs between the ground and first floors, with another band course at the eaves. The house has a timber bracketed eaves cornice and a steeply pitched slate roof. There are pedimented dormers, including a three-light bow dormer at the angle, which has a rock-faced stack emerging from its conical roof. The dormer is finished with a red tiled ridge and a finial.

The rear elevation has a two-storey advanced bay made of stugged ashlar. The ground floor features modern windows, while the first-floor windows are tripartite, with some upper sashes displaying coloured leaded glass and others having plate glass glazing.

The garden is enclosed by low coped stugged red ashlar walls that support square ashlar piers.
