Description

David Barclay, architect; 1902. Polished red ashlar house

occupying corner site and adjoining Dowanhill Street to S. 2

storeys and attics.

Asymmetrical 3-bay elevation to Victoria Crescent Road,

advanced bay to right steps to pilastered doorway with

double-leaf door with dentil moulding and curvilinear lintel

separating door from glazed rectangular fanlight. Flanking

door, leaded glass sidelights with bracketted cill and lintel

with strapwork pediment over. To left; 4-light bow window

returns round angle. To right, advanced bay with 4-light

mullioned projecting square window. Continuous moulded band

courses between ground and 1st floors; band course at eaves.

Timber bracketted eaves cornice; steeply pitched slate roof.

Pedimented dormers; at angle, 3-light bow dormer with

rock-faced stack emerging from conical roof. Red tiled ridge

and finial to conical roof of dormer.

Rear elevation with 2-storey advanced bay; stugged ashlar.

Ground floor with modern windows, 1st floor windows

tripartite with coloured leaded glass to some upper sashes,

otherwise plate glass glazing.

Low coped stugged red ashlar walls to garden supporting

square ashlar piers.
