Kings Gate, 33 Victoria Crescent Road, Dowanhill, Glasgow

Kings Gate, located at 33 Victoria Crescent Road in Dowanhill, Glasgow, is a mid-terrace house designed by architect David Barclay in 1902. This two-storey building features a low basement and is constructed with polished red ashlar, complemented by a stugged ashlar basement.

The house has an asymmetrical façade, with a recessed entrance bay positioned to the right. Balustraded steps lead down from the porch, which has a wide Roman Ionic design supported by polished red granite columns. The entrance features a doorpiece with rounded edges, a double-leaf panelled door, and is flanked by leaded glazed sidelights. Inside, the vestibule door showcases attractive leaded coloured glass.

To the left, there is a single-storey, three-light balustraded square projecting window that extends from the basement, while the remaining windows are primarily bipartite. The sash windows have plate glass lower sashes and leaded upper sashes. A continuous moulded band course runs above the ground floor, and there is an eaves band with timber-bracketed eaves cornice. The building also features corniced stacks with octagonal cans and slate roofs.

The rear of the house is finished in stugged ashlar and includes a canted bay window at both the basement and ground floor levels. The property is accessed via a communal driveway that includes gatepiers, which are shared with Nos 35 and 37 Kings Gate.
