Description

The building is a public convenience located at 2 Anniesland Road in Anniesland, Glasgow, designed by Pter Buchanan Cook in 1938. It is a cruciform block constructed from sandstone ashlar, featuring a base course, channelled masonry above, a frieze, cornice, and an ashlar parapet that includes sections of balustrade.

The north and south elevations have four bays, with rectangular porch projections in the bays west of the center. Each porch has a three-light window strip below the frieze and moulded doorways on the returns, leading to the Ladies' and Gents' facilities. There are further three-light strips in the outer bays to the west and four-light strips in the bays east of the center. The outer eastern bays have doors with moulded surrounds. The end elevations to the east and west also feature four-light strips.

The building includes border-glazed, square, metal hopper windows and panelled timber doors with plate glass fanlights.

Inside, there is a good period decorative scheme with glazed enamel tiles on the walls, complemented by a timber wainscot rail beneath a tiled frieze with coloured bands. The interior features a three-part mirrored recess with moulded timber colonnettes and a large circular wash basin at the center, surrounded by a ring of taps.
