Description

Anniesland Court is a prominent building located on Crow Road in Glasgow, designed by Jack Holmes and Partners between 1966 and 1968, with additions made in 1984 and 1985. This 22-storey tower block has a narrow rectangular plan and is situated on a podium. It features a parallel stair and lift tower that is bridged at alternate floors. Originally, the building contained 84 three-room apartments and 42 single rooms, all linked by a terrace play deck. Below the tower, there was originally a library and shopping mall, which connects to a three-storey block to the south that also has a raised basement, containing 16 three-room apartments and 8 single rooms.

The tower block is characterized by horizontal bands of precast mosaic-clad concrete panels, which alternate with window bands on the southwest side. These window bands consist of five-light strips punctuated by asbestos cement sheets. The northeast elevation features recessed access decks and drying areas. The southwest elevation has a two-stage podium with a covered concrete walkway leading to the taller upper stage, which has a terrace above with a brick parapet, railings, and stylized metal lamp standards added in 1984. The northeast elevation displays red brick gabled canted bays at ground level, which were added in 1984, and are glazed between horizontal apron windows at the basement level.

The stair and lift tower is a rectangular structure connected to the tower block by a part-glazed enclosed bridge. This bridge links to the narrow northwest elevation of the tower block, which contains lifts on the northeast side and stairs and refuse chutes on the southwest side. The ground level features concrete and part-glazed porches, with the concrete casing broken by vertical projections of interlocking glass.

The three-storey block has a canopied raised basement on the southeast side over commercial premises, with a terrace on the northwest side. Its brick end elevations include a projecting stair and lift tower on the northeast elevation. The southeast elevation features window bands with asbestos cement sheet aprons at the ground and second floors, along with a recessed deck passageway to the first floor. The building is topped with a gambrel roof covered in red sheet metal, and it has square metal pivot and casement windows.
