Description
The Olympia Theatre, located at 2-16 Orr Street in Glasgow, was designed by George Arthur and Son and built between 1910 and 1911. The interior was rebuilt by McNair and Elder in 1938. The building showcases a stripped Edwardian baroque style and features a tall corner block that curves at the corner, with a wide low entrance from the 1930s. The entrance is adorned with tiles that extend along both street elevations. The theatre has a giant order of Ionic columns above the entrance and a leaded dome. The exterior is primarily constructed of red ashlar with channelled plaster strips and a deep entablature. The flank facing Olympia Street displays a giant order with brick infill panels, while the Orr Street elevation is mainly brick. The roof is concealed.
