Partick District Library, 305 Dumbarton Road, Glasgow

Partick District Library, located at 305 Dumbarton Road in Glasgow, was built between 1922 and 1926 by the Office of Public Works. This single-storey library features Renaissance detailing and is arranged in an asymmetrical layout with 8 by 9 bays, constructed from polished ashlar stone. The windows are casement style with T-pane glazing, elliptically-headed, and have dropped architraves with keyblocks. The building has a roll-moulded plinth.

The elevation facing Dumbarton Road includes three canted bays, with a projecting eastern section and a facetted western corner. This corner features a flanking entrance with segmentally pedimented granite columns. Above the entrance is an entablature adorned with a sculpted laurel frieze and an escutcheon, which is enlarged over the windows at the canted angles. The roofline is accentuated by a mutule cornice and a balustraded die parapet.

The west return of the library has a five-bay section that repeats the main elevation, along with a recessed three-bay section and a lower block in front. The roof is slate and includes skylights. Surrounding the property is a boundary wall with wrought-iron railings and stone piers at the main entrance.

Inside, the library has been partially altered but retains coved, corniced ceilings with rich plasterwork.
