Description

Nos 1-3, G S Kenneth, architect; 1899. Nos 4-9 David Barclay

architect; 1902. Built to same design; terrace of 3-storey

and basement tenements. 20 bays arranged in 5 asymmetrical

4-bay blocks. Polished red ashlar, stugged at basement.

Steps oversailing basement to double-leaf panelled doors with

moulded lintel, curvilinear moulding below multi-pane

fanlight. Vestibule door tripartite with glazed panels and

sidelights. Each tenement house with full height 4-light bow

windows. Bipartite or tripartite fenestration; plate glass

sashes; most upper sashes with small pane or leaded glass

glazing. Continuous moulded band course over ground and 1st

floors. Eaves band, modillion cornice. Tall corniced axial

stacks; slate roofs. Ceramic cresting to ridges and finial to

conical roofs over bow windows.

Solid ashlar parapet to steps; low coped ashlar

boundary/retaining wall to front gardens with square ashlar

gatepiers.
