Description
14 Beaumont Gate in Glasgow is a three-storey and basement terrace of tenements designed by architect David Barclay around 1902. The building features a polished red ashlar facade with a stugged basement that has been stone cleaned. Most of the tenements have two-bay elevations, except for number 18, which has a three-bay design.
To the left, steps extend over the basement leading to double-leaf panelled doors topped with a moulded lintel and a curvilinear moulding below a fanlight, which is glazed with small panes or leaded glass. Numbers 13, 16, and 18 have small leaded lights flanking their doors. The vestibule doors are adorned with attractive leaded glass panels. To the right, and flanking the door at number 18, are full-height five-light bow windows that rise to a conical roof. The other windows are bipartite, with number 18 featuring tripartite windows. The sash windows have plate glass glazing, with most upper sashes incorporating leaded glass panes. A continuous moulded band course runs over the ground and first floors, complemented by an eaves band and a modillion cornice. The building has corniced axial stacks, slate roofs, and red ceramic ridge tiles and finials on the conical roofs.
There is a low ashlar wall supporting cast-iron railings at the steps, with intermediate ashlar gatepiers. An ashlar boundary and retaining wall encloses the gardens. The flank of number 18 is rendered, while the rear elevation is made of stugged ashlar featuring bi or tripartite windows.
