Pollokshields Public School, 11 Melville Street, Glasgow

The Janitor's Lodge, located at 9 Melville Street in Glasgow, was designed by H and D Barclay and built between 1878 and 1879, with a datestone marking 1879. This building is a variant of their palazzo-style design used for Glasgow's board schools.

It features two storeys with a symmetrical street elevation, where the roof breaks forward over shallow advanced ends. Pilasters at each level separate the window lights. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar and includes original T-shaped glazing, a deep mutule cornice, and piended slate roofs. The sides have three-light windows, and there is a full-height rear wing.

To the east, there is a single storey and attic janitor's lodge, which has broad-eaved dormer heads. The entire structure is set behind a low coping topped with decorative iron railings, although part of the railing has been replaced with brick. The entrance is marked by ashlar gatepiers.
