Description

Thomson and Turnbull, still building in 1878, but begun

circa 1873, ie prior to Alexander Thomson's death.

3-storey tenement, all regular bays with plain

unmargined openings; long elevations to 3 streets,

shallow recessed bows at corners. Stone-cleaned yellow

ashlar, channelled at ground floor, cill bands at upper

floors (with Greek key detail at 2nd), frieze with

rosettes; main cornice. Sash windows with 4-pane

glazing pattern, smaller upper panes; corniced stacks

(mainly rendered); dormers with

shallow curved roofs, vertically glazed swivel windows

could be 19th century; slate roofs; elevation to Darnley

Street articulated by slightly taller and shallow

advanced outer pavilion blocks.
