281 Kenmure Street, Glasgow

281 Kenmure Street in Glasgow is a three-storey tenement building designed by Thomson and Turnbull, constructed around 1873 and completed in 1878, shortly after the death of Alexander Thomson. The building features regular bays with plain unmargined openings and has long elevations facing three streets, with shallow recessed bows at the corners. The exterior is made of stone-cleaned yellow ashlar, with a channelled ground floor and cill bands on the upper floors, which include a Greek key detail on the second floor. The building has a frieze adorned with rosettes and a prominent cornice. The sash windows have a four-pane glazing pattern, with smaller upper panes. The chimney stacks are mainly rendered, and the dormers have shallow curved roofs with vertically glazed swivel windows that may date from the 19th century. The roofs are covered with slate, and the elevation facing Darnley Street is distinguished by slightly taller and shallow advanced outer pavilion blocks.
