Description
The Dalmarnock Adult Training Centre, located at 120 Carstairs Street in Glasgow, is a large, three-storey, 18-bay, symmetrical, T-plan building designed in the Edwardian Baroque style by J MacKissack and dated 1903. It was originally a Board School and features two-storey giant aedicular frames with pediments that break the wallhead on the south elevation. The building is constructed from squared and snecked red sandstone with ashlar margins, and includes cill courses and a cornice, along with other raised cills. The windows are a mix of bipartite and tripartite styles, and there is a later single-storey extension to the southeast.
On the south elevation, the central eight bays display the inscription "SCHOOL BOARD OF GLASGOW" and "STRATHCLYDE PUBLIC SCHOOL." Flanking this central section are pairs of aedicule frames that rise through the first and second storeys, featuring part-banded columns above decorative corbels and shield motifs in the apices. The rear elevation to the north has an advanced six-bay gabled wing with a round-arched window on the upper storey.
Most of the windows have been replaced with timber versions that feature a horizontal three-pane glazing pattern. The roof is piended and covered with grey slates, and there are wallhead stacks. The property is enclosed by a low, coped boundary wall that is topped with railings.
