40 Kingsborough Gardens, Glasgow

40 Kingsborough Gardens is a B-listed end-terrace house in Glasgow, designed by architect G S Kenneth around 1902. This four-bay building is constructed from polished red sandstone and features two storeys plus a basement.

The entrance is accessed via steps that oversail the basement, leading to a recessed panelled door adorned with an astragalled fanlight and a heavily consoled hood. To the right of the entrance, there are full-height, four-light bow windows topped with a conical roof and finial. At the extreme left, a corbelled four-light bow oriel with a bell-cast roof and lead finial is positioned at the first-floor angle. The ground floor has single light windows with bracketed cills, while the lower sash windows have plate glass, and the upper sashes feature either a six or nine-pane glazing pattern.

The building includes a band course at both the ground and eaves levels, with timber modillions supporting the overhanging eaves of the slate roofs, which have a tile-crested ridge and corniced axial stacks.

The northern flank is finished in polished ashlar, featuring an advanced blank stugged square bay at the ground level with a slate roof. Above this bay, bipartite windows rise through the eaves to the attic, complemented by tall wallhead stacks.

A low, coped ashlar wall runs along the road, supporting modern cast-iron railings with intermediate piers. The square piers are linked by a cast-iron parapet at the steps.
