Description

J Thomson, architect; 1859. Picturesque asymmetrical Tudor

Gothic villa. 2-storeys, attics and basement. Irregular ground

plan with single-storey and basement wing to S and service

wing to W. Terraced gardens.

Droved ashlar with polished margins and dressings;

stonecleaned; Picturesque asymmetrical elevations with high barge-boarded gables. Windows bi or quatrepartite transomed

and/or mullioned, with moulded reveals and mostly with hood

moulds. Some canted oriel and bay windows with decorative

moulded frieze cornice or pierced parapet details.

Door to NE with stiff leaf capital columns supporting porch

with pierced balustrade above 4-centre arch doorpiece,

double-leaf panelled doors. Single storey pavilion to S with

4-centre arched arcaded verandah and balcony.

Sash windows, plate glass glazing. Some 1st floor windows

have good leaded glass to upper sashes. Steeply pitched slate

roofs; corniced stacks with tall Tudor cans either single or

arranged in prominent groups.

Terraced garden with flight of stone steps balustrade and

piers.

Corniced octagonal gatepiers; stugged ashlar boundary wall

stepped down slope with coped piers.
