Description
The Bascule Bridge at Port Dundas over the Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow is an early 19th-century structure. It features a two-leaf hand-operated bascule design, with wooden leaves and cast-iron operating gear and balance weights. The bridge has hollow stone abutments. In recent years, some of the operating gear has been removed, and the timberwork has been renewed to its original design. This bridge is now the only standard Forth and Clyde bascule bridge in the inner city area of the canal that remains in nearly original condition.
