Description

Early 19th century. Two leaf hand-operated bascule bridge over Forth and Clyde Canal (Glasgow Branch). Leaves of wood, withcast-iron operating gear and balance weights, hollow stone abutments. Part of operating gear removed and timberwork renewed to original design within recent years. Now the only standard Forth and Clyde bascule bridge in near original condition in the inner city part of the canal.
