Description
The churchyard sits predominantly to the north and east of Kilconquhar Parish Church (listed separately). It contains several notable 18th-century monuments and headstones. The layout incorporates remnants of a late medieval aisle from an earlier parish church, which is now part of a later burial enclosure located to the east (listed separately). A 16th-century stone slab bearing an incised skull and crossbones is found to the south, alongside a rubble retaining wall. The entrance is marked by quatrefoil gatepiers. A rubble retaining wall runs along the north side, fronting Main Street. At the base of this wall is a cast-iron standpipe, manufactured by Glenfield and Kennedy Foundry, Kilmarnock, and patented in 1902.
This churchyard is part of an interesting group with Kilconquhar Parish Church (listed separately). The medieval remains and 18th-century headstones contribute to its appeal, situated on high ground to the east of the village, backing onto Kilconquhar Loch. The standpipe represents one of only three surviving examples of this type from the early 20th century, located along Kilconquhar Main Street. The churchyard is shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey Map of 1852.
