Description
The building at 2 Yoolfield Crescent is a single-storey, terraced cottage dating to the 1830s. It is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Originally, each cottage had three bays with a central doorway. The rectangular chimney stacks feature a block cornice. The roofs were originally pantiled, but number 2 now has a tiled roof. The former number 3 has had its central doorway blocked and is now incorporated into numbers 2 and 4, with a roof that is partly tiled and partly felted. Numbers 4 and 5 have felt tiled roofs. The cottages were built as part of a hamlet created by David Yool in Dura Den, associated with his Yoolfield spinning works. A reference in Fife Illustrated, dated 1840, page 74, provides further context regarding the works which were only partly operational at the time.
