Description
The building at 4 Yoolfield Crescent is a single-story, terraced row of cottages dating to the 1830s. It was constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Originally, each cottage had three bays with a central door. They feature rectangular ashlar stacks with a block cornice. The roofs were originally pantiled, but now nos. 1 and 2 have tiled roofs. The former no. 3 has had its centre door blocked and is now incorporated into nos. 2 and 4, with a roof that is part tiled, part felted. Nos. 4 and 5 have felt tiled roofs.
The hamlet was established in the 1830s within Dura Den by David Yool, in connection with his spinning works at Yoolfield. The works were only partially operational at the time. Fife Illustrated, published in 1840, provides a depiction of the area on page 74.
