Description
This is a row of three single-storey cottages, built around the 1830s. Constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, the cottages were originally each three bays wide, with a central doorway. They feature rectangular ashlar stacks with block cornices. The roofs were originally pantiled, though numbers 1 and 2 now have tiled roofs. Former number 3 has had its central doorway blocked and has been incorporated into numbers 2 and 4, with a roof that is partly tiled and partly felted. Numbers 4 and 5 have felt tiled roofs. The hamlet was established in Dura Den by David Yool, in connection with his Yoolfield spinning works, which were only partially operational. Fife Illustrated, published in 1840 on page 74, provides further details.
