Description
The steading at Craigsanquhar House, built around 1874 by James Maitland Wardop, is an L-plan structure located northwest of the service court of the house, which was originally connected to a now mostly demolished kitchen court. This building is single-storey with an attic and features a two-storey section that was originally a harness room on the ground floor and groom's accommodation above. It is designed in a plain Jacobethan style, characterized by corniced gablets at the dormer-headed windows, slated roofs, and bull-faced rubble walls.
The steading has undergone alterations, including the installation of modern glazing throughout. The stable range on the left (west) side retains its louvred hayloft doors on both the east and west elevations, as well as louvred axial ventilators, although the northern ventilator is damaged. The groom's house, which has a centre ridge stack, has been altered with modern doors and glazing at the front and rear, while the lean-tos on the rear (north) elevation are original. Additionally, the single-storey eastern range has a modern conservatory attached at the front.
