Description

North Lodge and Gates was designed by Sir Robert Lorimer and built in 1897-8. It is a small, square, single-storey building with an attic. The building is constructed of harled stone, with a slated pyramid roof. Dormers are stone sculpted. A corner roundel is a distinctive feature. The lodge is set within rusticated stone piers, topped by lions couchant. Curved approach walls have perforated panels, and a fine wrought-iron gate bears armorial shields. References to the lodge appear in Hussey’s work on Lorimer, including illustrations and a plan.
