Description
The building known as Steading, Greenside, dates back to 1733 as indicated by the lintel, although it was reconstructed in the early 19th century. This symmetrical classic structure is designed in a square shape with three sides open to the south. It is two stories high and features a central archway with two windows on either side. The wings have pedimented fronts and tripartite windows, with the first-floor windows being segmentally arched.
The east elevation has an interesting design, consisting of a central three-bay section with rudimentary pilasters and segmentally arched openings. The building is constructed from rubble with dressed ashlar detailing and has a slated roof. In the 19th century, a cattle court was added, which features a unique construction: a sunk court with a raised central gangway supported by raked radial members and semi-circular timber trusses.
