Description
Heather Lodge, located within the Raith Estate, is an earlier 19th-century single-story lodge house with a basement, built on a sloping site. It is designed in a picturesque cottage ornee style, with three bays. The base course is visible, and the lodge is harled with ashlar quoins and margin strips. The sides and rear feature snecked rubble construction with squared rubble quoins. A pointed arch window incorporates traceried details.
The west (principal) elevation has a projecting central bay featuring a traceried tripartite window that extends into an eyelid dormer. A more modern window is on the right return, with further windows in the recessed flanking bays.
The south (entrance) elevation has a set of steps leading to a centrally positioned door, above which is a shouldered stack. Modern windows are found in the flanking bays.
The north elevation features a raised basement with a small window in a broad, projecting central bay. Further details include a door on the left return, a door and small window in a recessed bay to the left, and a door with an adjacent louvered opening to the right. Ground-floor windows are found in the centre and right bays.
Small-pane glazing is present in the traceried windows and those on the north side. The roof is covered with graded grey slates. Coped ashlar wallhead stacks are diamond-aligned; the stack on the south is paired, while the central stack has a diamond-set pair with broached corbels and a linking cornice with cans.
