Description
Beadle's House, adjoining Hall at Abbotshall Parish Church, was built by William Little & Son in 1881. This single-storey building is designed in an L-plan with Gothic details, featuring a gabled hall and a lower wing in the re-entrant angle. The exterior is constructed from squared and snecked rubble with polished ashlar quoins. It includes pointed, segmental, and basket-arched openings, hoodmoulds, and chamfered arrises.
On the west elevation, there is a pointed-arch doorway with a deep-set, two-leaf boarded timber door and a shaped fanlight. Flanking bays contain segmental-headed windows, and there is a traceried window in the gablehead, which is finialled. To the right, a lower link connects to another gable that has a basket-arched window and a moulded datestone in the gablehead, along with a stack.
The north elevation, facing the graveyard, presents an asymmetrical design with basket-arched windows and two small timber-louvered ridge ventilators. The south elevation, facing Cloanden Place, features a gable to the right with a glazed oculus, a round corbelled gablehead stack, and corbelled angles. The left side has a door and four windows in an altered lower bay, while the outer right has two windows in an extension.
The windows have various glazing patterns, including 4-pane, 6-pane, and plate glass in timber frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans, as well as ashlar-coped skews with trefoil-detailed mitre skewputts. The interior was not seen in 1997.
