Description

Later 19th century, altered and extended. Row of 8 2-bay, single storey gabled flax-spinner's cottages (No 49 now 2-storey) and 2-storey, 2-bay manager's house adjoining gable end of disused mill in irregular terrace to S. Bracketed stone canopies to windows and doors. Squared and snecked whinstone, contrasting dressed quoins and deeply chamfered arrises. Overhanging eaves, exposed rafters.

E (MAIN) ELEVATION: originally 4 symmetrical M-gabled pairs with centre pend under gablet roof in valley, flanked by doors, windows in outer bays; manager's house, No 51, slightly advanced, with door to left, window to right and 2 gabled dormer heads breaking eaves, 19th century rooflight to outer left. No 49 with harled out of character flat-roofed 1st floor extension with 2 windows; No 37 with pend converted to door and flanking doors converted to windows; stone canopy missing from No 45.

Plate glass glazing in sash and case windows except at Nos 37 and 41 with top opening modern windows, and pivot windows at No 49 1st floor. Grey slates and deeply overhanging eaves, with ashlar coped skews, square skewputts and coped ashlar stacks with some cans to No 51.
