Description
The Old Anti Burgher Kirk, located on High Street in Leslie, was built in 1744 by William and James Gardener and John Jellson. This altered, single-storey, three-bay rectangular building is constructed of random rubble and originally served as a meeting house for anti-secessionists. It is now used as a joiner's workshop and features some long and shortwork ashlar dressings.
On the south elevation, there are two regular window bays at the center and right, with a door on the left that has been enlarged to create a garage entrance. The north elevation has a door to the right with a dated lintel and a window to the left. The building has broad gables on both the east and west sides.
Inside, there is an ogival canopy sounding board above the pulpit, made by Peter Wilkie in 1745, and chains below the site of a gallery that were reputedly used for the punishment of sinners. The roof is covered with corrugated asbestos, and the stepped ashlar skews feature beak skewputts and block finial bases at the gableheads.
