Description
This is a late 18th and early 19th century manse. It is two storeys high with an attic, and has three bays across the front. The south elevation is faced with droved ashlar, while the rest of the building is constructed of rubble. A central recessed door is present, and the windows are small-paned sash windows, with a 15-pane pattern on the first floor. Other features include an eaves and lintel band, simple skewputts, straight skews, corniced end stacks, and a slate roof. Flat-roofed dormers and a projecting ground floor window to the south were added after a fire around 1927. A piended low rear wing with a wallhead stack is also present.
To the south is a quadrangular walled garden enclosed by rubble-built walls which are linked to the house. A gate with an inscribed lintel is located in the north-west corner. To the north, a single-storey, L-shaped range of outbuildings has a pantiled roof. A group value context is shared with the nearby parish church and dovecote. The artist Sir David Wilkie (1785-1841) was born at Cults Manse.
