Description

7 Back Causeway is an 18th-century, two-storey, three-bay house with a rectangular plan. The exterior features harled walls and droved stone surrounds for the windows and doors.

On the north elevation, there is a central door flanked by windows on the ground floor, with three first-floor windows positioned above, close to the eaves. A plaque from the National Trust for Scotland is located to the left of the door.

The east elevation has a plain gable with two crowsteps beneath the chimney. The south elevation, partially visible as of 2001, includes a central lean-to with a window on each side. There are ground floor windows to the left and right of the lean-to, with a mid-floor window situated between the far left and second bay. The first floor features three windows, and there is a skewputt at the right quoin, at the mid-level of the first-floor windows.

The west elevation is similarly plain with a gable and two crowsteps beneath the chimney. The principal elevation has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the rear has mostly modern fenestration, including UPVC windows. The door is timber boarded with decorative metal hinges and a central tirling pin. The pitched roof is covered with replacement clay pantiles, featuring gable apex stacks and circular cans, while the rear lean-to has a pantiled roof.

The interior was not seen in 2001.

A boundary wall made of rubble sandstone extends from the rear east quoin southwards, incorporating a timber door. The wall continues west along Mid Causeway, featuring a moulded stone doorpiece from a former house and a rounded quoin for a gate, with modern timber gates to the left. The wall continues leftward, adjacent to a modern garage. A garden wall extends from the rear west quoin southwards, partly harled and mostly exposed rubble sandstone, with a timber garden door and an ashlar stone surround.
