Description
Abdie House is a cottage-style building designed by Thomas Brown in 1840. It is two stories high and features an asymmetrical design. The structure is built from pinned whin rubble with droved sandstone dressings and has a slated roof. Notable architectural elements include Tudor hoodmoulds at the ground floor and Jacobean finials on the gables, along with shafted chimneys; the original chimneys are octagonal, while the replacements are diagonal. The garden includes ornamental features at the gate piers and other decorations sourced from Stitchel. Additionally, there are 1622 and 1632 lintels from MAB in the garden walls. The offices, built by John Bell in 1815, incorporate an older wing and were constructed by Robert Russel and Alex Marshall.
