Description
Rumgally House is a house of unknown original extent, significantly remodelled in the Scottish Baronial style during the 1930s. The house is two storeys and has an attic, arranged in an L-shaped plan, with a two-storey wing extending to the northeast rear. The exterior is harled.
The south front features an advanced, single-bay gable on the right-hand side. This gable is crowstepped, with a chimney stack at its top and a small bartizan at the southwest angle. A round tower is set within the re-entrant angle, with a corbelled wallhead and a conical slate roof. A small, piended porch provides the entrance, positioned between the tower and the main south front. The south front itself consists of four bays, with bi-partite windows to the right of the entrance, and four windows on the first floor. Dormers with crowstepped wallheads are above the first-floor windows. The roof has straight skews, with a stepped section halfway down, and a rectangular coped stack on the east side. A large, rectangular stack is also located at the west end. The 1932 work incorporates harled brick with rendered margins.
A triangular pediment on the projecting south wing bears an inscription taken from Psalm 37: "PSAL; 37 IVST VSBE - IAIV GERA AGRI TENEBIT ET GOLET - THE GOOD AND GODLIE INHERIT SHALL THE LAND". The date 1932 was provided by a relative of a previous owner.
