Description
Feather House, part of the Montquhanie Estate, is a 16th-century tower house. Originally measuring 42 feet by 26 feet, it was built using whin rubble with ashlar dressings. Surviving corner turrets are corbelled. The centre of the north wall is missing and the south wall has been altered during later repairs.
A small lean-to addition and a mid-Victorian addition with crowstepped gables, dated IC ML 1682, extend from the east courtyard wall and connect to a small two-story range to the west, which was restored in 1964.
A three-window conical-roofed tower is positioned on the southwest angle. The south gable is crowstepped while the north gable is straight. A stone built into the west wall is dated BAC 1680.
The site is a scheduled monument; permission was once granted for demolition, but this was not enacted.
