Description

Craigluscar is a later 18th century, 2-storey and attic, 3-bay L-plan farmhouse built into a bank that slopes down to the south. The structure is made of sandstone rubble, featuring ashlar surrounds to the openings, as well as band and eaves courses and vertical margins. The east elevation and rear wing are harled.

On the south elevation, which is the principal facade, there is a central door flanked by windows, with three first-floor windows centered above and three inserted dormer windows. A modern central porch has been added. The west elevation has a small ground floor window, with a central single window on both the first and attic floors.

The north elevation features a single first-floor window to the right, a glazed door to the left, and a window above. There is an advanced 2-storey wing to the left, with a plain rear gable. This elevation also has two ground floor windows in the right return and two modern windows above, along with a door in an outshot to the far left.

The east elevation includes an inserted ground floor door with a window to the right, an off-centre first floor window, and another first floor window to the far right. There are two attic floor windows in the modern wing, which also has a modern outshot to the far right, with a central window on the east elevation and in the left return.

The farmhouse predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The pitched slate roof has raised skews, while the rear wing has a flat roof and the outshot has a piend slate roof. There are lean-to slate roofs on the northeast outshot, and the gable apex stacks are corniced with polygonal clay cans. There are also wallhead stacks on the rear wing and the outshot.

The interior was not seen in 2000.

The garden walls are rectangular and made of sandstone rubble, topped with rough coping stones. The flanking walls extend from the gable walls, enclosing smaller rear gardens. There is an open gateway in the right wall leading to the front and a doorway in the left wall, both featuring flat coping stones. The wall is attached to the rear gable wall and made of random sandstone, with four interspersed upright coping stones.
