Description

The Railway Pier in North Queensferry, possibly designed by Thomas Bouch in 1877, features a long jetty and pier-head with an eastern slip that was extended around 1935. The structure is built from large squared concrete blocks arranged in courses, with hammer-dressed sandstone coping. The surfaces include sett and concrete, and there are steel buttresses along the lower slipway. Steel mooring bollards are present on both the lower and upper jetties, and there is sloping masonry to the west that accommodates ferry moorings. The entire structure is partially covered in concrete render and tarmac. A square raised signal cabin, which is partly derelict, is located on the upper level. The goods yard pier features sloping coursed masonry and random rubble with a tarmac surface. There is also an associated timber and steel square disembarkation pier offshore to the east, although the gangway is now missing.
