Description
Kettletoft Pier in Sanday consists of parallel piers with a slipway in between, creating a narrow harbour. The original pier, built in 1833 from coursed rubble, features a flagstone pavement on the south side and was extended with concrete in 1883. It includes stugged sandstone ashlar steps leading to the water, with cast-iron railings on the north side. A shorter, hook-ended concrete pier was added in the 20th century to the north, which has a modern steel railing. The central slipway is constructed of vertically-set flagstones and has a cast-iron capstan marked Westerman, Genoa at the landward end.
The original pier includes a two-storey, nine-bay former storehouse made of random rubble, which is harl-pointed on the north side. This building has regular windows, uPVC fittings, and a Welsh slate roof. There is a small two-storey square-plan light tower next to a single-storey store with a piended roof at the seaward end. Additionally, there is a single-storey brick store with a gabled roof nearby.
At the head of the slipway, there is a small single-storey square-plan gabled weighbridge hut that is cement-rendered, along with a cast-iron weighbridge located on the east side.
