Description

16-18 Kirkgate in Burntisland is a mid to later 19th century terrace of six houses, two stories high with seven bays, located next to Nos 6-10 Kirkgate to the north. The building features corniced doorcases with console brackets and a roll-moulded pend entrance. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar, with rustication at the ground level, squared and snecked rubble, and heavily droved ashlar long and short quoins on the south side. It includes a first-floor cill course and eaves course, stone mullions, and chamfered arrises.

On the east elevation, there is a wide carriage pend entrance to the right of the center, with paired doors and bipartite fanlights to the right, along with a bipartite window further to the outer right. To the left, there are adjacent paired doors with bipartite fanlights, two bipartite windows beyond, and paired doors with fanlights at the outer left. There is an altered window to the right of the center over the pend, a bipartite window to the right, and a window to the left with two bipartite windows beyond and another window at the outer left.

The south elevation has a small blocked window at the first floor center, while the north elevation features various windows at both levels. The windows at Nos 20 and 22 on the east side, and at No 12 on the ground floor east, have a 4-pane glazing pattern in sash and case style, while the remaining windows have modern uPVC glazing. The roof is covered with grey slates and has coped ashlar stacks with some cans, cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers, and ashlar coped skews with moulded skewputts.
