Description
Lynebank Hospital Administration Block, designed by Alison and Hutchison and Partners with Harry Horace Macdonald as the partner in charge, was built in 1965. This rectangular-plan hospital administration block is located to the north of the Lynebank Hospital site and consists of a four-storey asymmetrical cuboid lecture theatre and office block, along with an integrated single-storey reception and office range with 16 bays.
The four-storey lecture theatre and office block is constructed from in-situ, shuttered concrete. It features a projecting flat-roof canopy at the main entrance on the north elevation and a full-height glazed stairwell to the right of the glazed metal doors. The block includes two asymmetrical cantilevered lecture theatres with sloping planes on the first floor, which have horizontally pierced parapets and glazed walls on the east and west returns. Above the lecture theatres, there are a pair of cuboid offices at the third floor level. The west elevation also has a full-height glazed stairwell outshot, and the south-east corner features a pierced parapet on the first floor. The offices display a horizontal and vertical glazing pattern, predominantly using metal framed glazing. There are enclosed open-air courtyards at ground floor level on the east and west sides.
The single-storey reception and office range has a roughly 16-bay arrangement on the north elevation, constructed from pale brick with a rendered band painted white at the upper level, which returns to the east and west elevations. The fenestration is irregular, with each window featuring a horizontal margin light adjoining to the upper right and dark-stained timber panelling below. The roof is flat.
Inside, the interior remains substantially unaltered, showcasing original period materials, fixtures, and fittings. The ground floor includes a large open reception area, while the main stairwell features board-marked concrete shuttering with a repeating horizontal and vertical relief pattern. Each floor has pairs of 2-leaf timber doors with margin lights above, and there is a glazed corridor connecting the cuboid offices above the lecture theatres.
