Description

The Corner, located at 2 High Street in Leven, is a two-storey shop built in 1914, featuring a corner tower on a prominent site. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar with a channelled design at the ground level. It has a deep traditional fascia, a ground floor cornice, a deep cill course at the first floor, and an eaves cornice, which is mutulated at the towerhead. The building includes stone mullions and chamfered arrises.

On the south elevation facing Shorehead, there is an in-canted timber door with etched glass leading to a deep fanlight, accompanied by a narrow fanlight above, flanking lights, and a full-width, three-light outer fanlight. The rounded angle above transitions to a tripartite window, with the eaves breaking into a finialled conical roof.

The southeast elevation on High Street features a four-part traditional display window with a broad channelled pier on the outer right, canvas blinds, and a full-width fascia displaying 'BARRON' in gold lettering, along with a moulded bracket to the outer right. There is a bipartite window at the centre on the first floor, with single windows in the flanking bays.

On the southwest elevation facing Union Street, there is a display window with a broad channelled pier on the outer left, along with a lettered fascia and bracket similar to the High Street elevation; a single window is present on the first floor.

The first-floor windows are timber sash and case with plate glass glazing, while the ground floor features fixed display windows. The roof is covered with small grey/green slates, and there are cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

Inside, the shop has a panelled timber counter and traditional shelving, with a boarded timber ceiling. A clock by D Mitchell of Leven hangs above the main entrance.
