Burntisland Harbour

Burntisland Harbour is a re-modelled harbour originally established in the 1540s, with significant work carried out by Meik & Bouch between 1876 and 1902. The harbour features two wet docks and a tidal basin entrance that is 38 feet wide and between 16 to 22 feet deep.

The tidal harbours consist of a rectangular Outer Harbour that widens to the east and narrows into an adjoining round-ended Inner Harbour to the north. The wet docks are also rectangular, with the East Dock narrowing to the east and equipped with jetties to the south and capstans flanking its mouth. The West Dock is similarly rectangular, with its entrance located to the south.

A coped coursed rubble breakwater is situated to the southwest. There is a coped ashlar passenger slipway featuring stone sets and a pulvinated band course, along with a wooden-jib post crane on a projecting arm located between the Inner and Outer Harbours. Additionally, there is a west breakwater light, which is a fixed small cast-iron pier with a lantern housed in a caphouse behind a cast-iron balcony.
