Description
West Lodge at Balmuto is an earlier 19th-century lodge house that has been significantly extended to the side and rear. It is a single-storey, three-bay building with a piend roof and features a prominent Greek Doric portico. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, with a deep base and eaves courses, quoin strips, and a moulded cornice.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, is symmetrical and includes a prostyle flat-roofed portico at the center, above a timber door that has a letterbox fanlight. There are windows in the flanking bays, and a recessed extension to the left features a window.
On the north elevation, there is a blinded window to the left and an advanced extension that contains three windows. The windows are timber sash and case with a 4-pane glazing pattern, although the extension has modern glazing. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, and there is a harled and coped stack.
The property is enclosed by boundary walls that are cement-rendered and have low saddleback coping. The gatepiers are pyramid-capped and fielded, while decorative arrowhead cast-iron railings sit on an ashlar base.
