Description
54 High Street in Inverkeithing is a two-storey and attic, three-bay town house built in 1830, which now includes a shop and a flat above. The building is constructed from coursed and droved sandstone with Aberdeen bonding and has been rendered on the east side. The base course is interrupted by a later shop front, featuring dressed openings and stone cills, along with piended dormers.
The north elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a central glazed and timber panelled door with a left-hand side light and a horizontal fanlight. Flanking the door are shop windows, and above them is a dentilled and corniced fascia board with geometric consoles. There are three first-floor windows, with the central window boarded. The attic storey features recessed polygonal piended dormers, and a skew-putt is dated "1830".
On the west elevation, there is a large shop window to the left, topped by an ornamental fascia, and a late 20th-century timber boarded door to the right that leads to 56 High Street. Above the door is a blind first-floor window, with another window to the right above the shop front.
The south elevation is adjacent to shops and a tenement. The east elevation has a timber boarded door off-centre to the left and a window with iron bars to the left, along with a first-floor window to the left.
The shop features plate glass windows, while the first floor has 12-pane uPVC sash and case windows, and the dormer windows are 2-pane uPVC sash and case. The pitched roof is covered with graded grey slates, and the building has straight ashlar skews and truncated gablehead stacks.
Inside, there is early to earlier 20th-century shelving and a trading counter in the shop. The upper floor was not seen during the last inspection in 2003.
