Description
The Market Cross on Bank Street in Inverkeithing is a 16th century structure featuring an octagonal shaft, which has a replacement stone in the middle. The cross was created by John Boyd in 1688 and includes a stepped octagonal capital adorned with four heraldic shields. Two of these shields display the Royal arms on the southeast and southwest sides, while the northeast shield depicts the Douglas coat of arms, and the northwest shield features the arms of Robert III and Annabella Drummond, all enriched with roses. Atop the capital is a cubical sundial, which is surmounted by a unicorn bearing a saltire. The cross stands on a modern stepped base that includes a 20th century plaque on the south side.
