6 Hope Cottages, Muirhouses, Bo'Ness

5 Hope Cottages in Muirhouses, Bo'ness, date back to 1874 and consist of two single-storey and attic cottages arranged in an L-plan design, characteristic of the cottage orné style. The cottages are mainly constructed from squared and snecked tooled sandstone, featuring overhanging eaves and droved chamfered openings.

On the east elevation, there is a gabled porch in a low recessed wing to the right, which includes a datestone from 1874. To the left, there are four bays, with a later flat-roofed dormer positioned above. The south elevation features a half-hipped two-bay end gable to the right, which has a blind attic lancet window (No 6). To the left, there are two recessed bays, with a further low recessed wing at the far left that contains the entrance door for No 5.

There is no leaded lattice glazing remaining. The door to No 6 is timber boarded. The roofs are covered with graded grey slates, and there are gable end stacks on the north and west sides, along with a ridge stack at the junction between Nos 5 and 6. The north elevation of No 5 has a later flat-roofed dormer and a large flat-roofed stone extension to the right.

Inside, both Nos 5 and 6 have been modernised, but the possible original location of the staircase to the attic remains visible in No 6. The boundary walls consist of a rubble wall to the east, topped with semi-circular coping.
