Gate Piers, Avon Hall, Bo'Ness Road, Grangemouth

Avon Hall is a substantial, asymmetrical baronial house designed by architect J M McLaren and built between 1877 and 1878. The building features two storeys and an attic, constructed from bull-nosed rubble with tooled dressings and a deep battered plinth. The entrance is located in a drum tower that rises to the second floor and is topped with a boldly corbelled balustrade. To the left, there is a boldly projecting semi-octagonal bay that includes decorative detailing and a facetted roof with a weather vane. A large wallhead stack is positioned on the left side of the house.

To the east, there is a low single-storey and attic wing, while the west-facing facade has twin gables and a two-storey canted window in the southern bay, featuring etched glass. The windows are either transomed or designed in a cross pattern. The roofs are covered with slate, and the tall stacks have curved angles and cornices. The property is also marked by gatepiers that have a square plan with oval panels, raised on plinths and topped with corniced capstones.
