Description

This is an early 19th century house, significantly altered in the mid and late 19th century. It is a substantial, rectangular building of two storeys and a basement, with later additions that create a near L-shaped arrangement at the rear. A further two-storey, L-shaped block extends to the northwest, featuring a porch in the re-entrant angle facing the front. A crenellated addition sits in the re-entrant angle of the northeast side.

The original early 19th century block is faced in lined render with ashlar dressings, featuring a base course, corniced eaves, pointed crenellation to the parapet, narrow quoin strips, plain margins, and architraved hoodmoulds to the front. The northwest block is constructed of cream sandstone, coursed and droved, with ashlar dressings, a base course, eaves course, corniced eaves, narrow quoin strips, and chamfered margins.

The front (northeast) elevation displays the original three-bay early 19th century block on the left. A roll-moulded doorpiece is centred at ground floor, with a blind shield and stepped hoodmould above. Single windows flank the door. A single-storey addition, recessed and crenellated, is set to the right. A single window is centrally placed within this addition. The rear elevation has a two-storey, two-bay block with a single window at the first floor to the left and single windows at both ground and first floors to the right.

The northwest side elevation showcases the later two-storey, three-bay house incorporating a projecting, flat-roofed porch within the central re-entrant angle. The porch has a timber panelled door with a roll-moulded surround and a shouldered-arched recess. A tripartite window sits at ground floor in the recessed bay to the outer right, featuring narrow side lights. Single windows are present in both bays at the first floor. A full-height, single-bay projection is centrally located to the left, with windows on both floors. A single-storey, flat-roofed addition is recessed to the right, with a crenellated block set behind.

The southwest (rear) elevation displays the original crenellated block, recessed towards the outer right, with a flat-roofed addition to the front. A plain elevation belongs to the two-storey wing projecting to the left, while a further two-storey, two-bay wing projects to the outer left, featuring single windows at both ground and first floors.

The windows are blocked. The roofs are grey slate, piended in form, with corniced sandstone ridge and wallhead stacks topped with circular cans. The interior was not accessible for inspection in 2004.
